The Tale of Details

Just a winding seven mile drive through the beautiful North Carolina countryside from Boone, Cottage on the New has two bedrooms and two baths, and is fully furnished.

The cottage is a "No Smoking" cottage. It is also easy on allergies, thanks to recent renovation and wood floors, and no cats (I like them, but can't live with them). Smokers may smoke outside with windows and doors closed, and must use the ash tray at all times. Ash trays must be wiped clean when leaving, and left outside.

The Living/Dining Room:

The living room and dining room combine
to make one spacious room.

The living room has a television and DVD player. The fireplace has gas logs that take the chill out of the air quickly, and is beautiful to cozy up in front of as the snow falls outside.

The dining room has a table and four chairs.  If a fifth chair is needed, one can be brought in from the porch.

Master bedroom:

The master bedroom has a bed, side tables, alarm clock, love seat, dresser and private bath. Extra blankets are in the closet, as well as a dog kennel, and an ironing board with an iron.

Laundry:
There is a washer and dryer stack in the hall bathroom. An iron and ironing board are in the master bedroom closet.

Well Equipped Kitchen

The kitchen is newly equipped:
Besides the stove, refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave, it also has everything you'd need to prepare and serve dinner for 8 people.
Blender, mixing and serving bowls, pitcher, pots and pans, knives, scissors, matches, grill, wine opener, dish towels, etc.

The water comes from a natural spring up the hill from the house, and is refreshing and deliciously clear.

On the porch:
There is a medium sized charcoal grill on the front porch and basic grilling equipment.
A table and chairs for outdoor dining;
Extra chairs which you can take down to the yard to sit along the river

The quaint little village of Todd is just a few miles further down the road. You continue down River Road to Wahoo Canoe Rentals (on the left) and cross the bridge there, go right onto Big Hill Road, come to the end of that road, go left, and you're in Todd. (There may be a quicker way.) It has a general store where you can purchace vintage items and antiques. They also have ice cream and special events, like Tuesday story telling and Friday night Bluegrass.

Check in time is 3:00 PM
Check out time is 11:00 AM

The New River, one of the world's oldest rivers, runs along the front yard, where it can be observed as you relax and dine on the porch. (More about it on the New River page.) The back "yard" is a wooded hillside dotted with woodland wildflowers (It's actually a mountain, I think).

NOTE: We have a land phone for our guests at the cottage. The number is 828-264-8192. You will want to give this number to friends and family. Cell phones don't work well in many places in the mountains. Internet service is unavailable, so please keep that in mind as you plan your visit. You can make phone calls on your cell phone if you wish, but have to stand still out on the porch or in the yard to do so. Any charges for non-local calls will be deducted from the security deposit before refund.

The nearest hospital is in Boone at 336 Deerfield Road, off Hwy 321 across from Walgreen's, or at the end of State Farm Road. There are also walk-in clinics in that area.
